Section 2:
Approach to Methods of Skeletal Analysis
The key difference in the approach to methods in skeletal analysis in forensic cases vs. skeletal biology cases is what the methods will tell us. Forensic Anthropology analysis methods reveal information on 1 individual. Skeletal Biology analysis methods reveal information trends across population.
With the aim in mind:
- Decide what methods are applicable based on what bones are available for examination
- In forensic cases there may be more of a nearly complete skeleton
- Whereas in some archaeological cases there may be greater fracturing and commingling, or mixing, of bones) and their condition (are they broken, fragmentary, whole, etc.).
- Decide how results will be reported
- Conservatively
- Broadly
- For what purpose?
