Syllabus
Prerequisites Learners must be able to use the
Internet to communicate with the instructor and fellow students via chat and web
board, as well as for conducting searches. Learners must also have and be able
to use an email account. Help with getting a free account is available from the
instructor or from this tutorial.
Course Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- state at least five characteristics of Internet social interactions which differ from face to face interaction.
- discuss how research on impression formation is applicable to the Internet.
- discuss identity formation on the Internet.
- discuss aggression and cooperation on the Internet.
- discuss group formation and community building on the Internet.
- discuss addiction and its applicability to the Internet.
- discuss sexuality and gender issues associated with the Internet
- discuss the development of consciousness in relation to the Internet
Grading
Participation: 40%
Reflection Papers: 10% each
Final Paper: 20%
