Before purchasing your fish tank you should decide what
size and shape tank you want to buy.
When it comes to
tank size you should consider:
howbig the
fishare eventually going to get
it is true that the
size of a tank will slow the growth of some species, but it doesn't
stop it. You are better off buying a tank that is going to be big
enough to hold full grown fish.
One good rule of thumb
is to have 1 gallon of water per 1 inch of
fish.
how many fish you want to have in the tank
it is never a good
idea to crowd your tank - it can cause multiple problems including
elevated ammonia levels and fish mortality.
how much you can afford to spend
fish tanks are not cheap when
you think about everything else that you need to buy in addition
to just the tank - which we will get to in the next section.
