Tools

The design tools that I employed while building this tutorial include type, shape, color, depth and space.

  • Type: I used a consistent arial font throughout the site, but varied the size and the boldness of the text to indicate a hierarchy.
  • Shape: I used basic consistent shapes (rectangle, oval, arrow) for my buttons in order to indicate a navigational scheme.
  • Color: I used consistent colors throughout the site to help the learner orient themselves at all times and to add emphasis to specific content.
  • Depth: I added depth to my navigation and subnavigation to represent the action of a real button.
  • Space: I spaced out the graphics and text in order to keep a neat, consistent appearance throughout the site and also to reduce cognitive load.
