Tank Placement

Before purchasing your fish tank you should decide where you are going to place it.

Here are a few things that are important for you to consider:

  • how sturdy the flooring is in that spot
    • tanks with water, gravel and ornaments are heavy!
  • how level the floor is
    • uneven ground can cause tanks to become unstable and leaky.
  • how much direct sunlight it will get
    • sunlight causes increased algae growth and excess evaporation of the water.
  • whether or not you have small children and animals that may be able to disrupt the tank
    • in the case of children: either by pulling it down on them, putting things into the tank that could be harmful or in the case of animals, like cats, getting into the tank and eating the fish.
  • some fish tend to be jumpers (yes, they can jump out of the tank).
    • I do not recommend placing the tank next to a heater (crispy fish) and always remember to cover the tank.
