MIT
502 HPE Plan
MIT 502 is a course designed to introduce theories and techniques for
solving training and non-training problems in business, The major focus of the course was on Human Performance Enhancement (HPE)
methods and techniques. Emphasis was placed on the four levels of performance
used by (Author) to get a thorough analysis of the environment which include: The project requirement of this course was to assess a performance problem within an organization and analyze the environment for selecting solutions, and job and task analyses. The project was conducted individually and submitted in phases to allow Dr. Murdock (Professor of MIT 502) an opportunity to give feedback prior to moving on to the next section. I chose to analyze a problem at Topsail High School centered around the lack of proficiency on the “Fundamentals of Technology” state prepared end-of-course exam. Less than 10% of students in the class were proficient on the exam (score of 82% or better), and the average score in the class was less than 50%. The HPE plan describes the performance problem, the needs assessment/analysis, and proposed strategies for improving the performance. Information was based on the test results and correspondence with the school principal and the “Fundamentals of Technology” course instructor. Though the project was a prototype, the information gathering portion was factual and generated as if the proposal were to actual be implemented. I was enrolled in the course during the summer of 2004, with the course only lasting only 5-6 weeks. With such a short time span, it was difficult to evaluate my proposal with the thoroughness necessary to implement the solutions to Topsail High School. I have included the entire HPE Plan as well as the individual components as they relate to the domain competencies of instructional technology.
