My Background

My name is Patrick Henry Gunn and welcome to my electronic portfolio. I am currently enrolled in the Masters of Science in
Instructional Technology (MIT) program at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and will graduate in May of 2005.
I hold a Bachelors of Science in International Business Administration as well as a Secondary Education Teaching License
in Business Education. I have held positions in the field of Accounting, but the majority of my roles have been in the field of
education or training due to my desire to share my knowledge to improve the skills of others.

I spent four years teaching Business Education and Computer Applications courses at Topsail High School where I also
held the positions of Head Track and Field and Cross Country Coach, Head JV Boys Basketball Coach, Assistant Varsity
Basketball Coach and Assistant Varsity Football Coach. My experiences as an athlete from a child through college as a
member of the UNC Wilmington Track Team, and my coaching experiences have helped develop my ability to foster
teamwork in everything that I do, which is a key ingredient in my career goals.

Teaching at Topsail High School, I also landed the position of Adult Computer Skills Trainer through Pender County schools,
where I taught persons generally 35 and older, effective ways to use computers and technology for personal and professional
use. This opportunity gave me my first exposure to being actively involved in adult learning, and was very instrumental in my
decision to enroll in the MIT program.

I was drawn to the MIT program because of the broad range of learning opportunities and the ever changing field of Instructional
Technology. The field has helped me strengthen my ability to present information to persons of all kinds in a manner that they will
gain maximum benefit. I am a strong believer in continuous education (life-long learning), and I feel as the field of Instructional
Technology continues to grow, so will my knowledge and abilities.
