MIT 510 Macro-Level Design Project

MIT 510 is a course which emphasizes skills and understanding necessary to create effective, efficient, and appealing instruction in any content area and with any medium, including live instruction. The focus is on the actual process (the activities and media required to create and deliver instruction) and the product (what the instruction should accomplish).

The course project involved analyzing, designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating an instructional system for a particular field site. Serving as the team leader, my group focused on a strategy for closing the achievement gap between minority and non-minority US History students in New Hanover County Schools, and used the New Hanover High School US History courses as the sample group.

Rationale for Inclusion
Conduct performance analysis and determine the appropriateness of instructional solutions for the problem The front-end analysis allowed me to examine the problem and determine appropriate strategies.
Plan and conduct needs assessment A needs assessment was conducted to determine the “gap” that needed attention.

Conduct analysis of jobs/tasks and content. Appropriate tasks for instructors and students were included in the plan.

Domain of Utilization
Competencies

Rationale for Inclusion
Apply leadership techniques with individuals and groups (interpersonal skills, group dynamics, team building and diffusion of innovations) The Macro-level Project includes methods of decreasing the minority achievement gap through the use of interpersonal skills and team building.
Demonstrate a knowledge of the laws and regulations which govern the selection and utilization of media/emerging technology, including copyright, censorship, State Board Regulations, Local Board Policies, etc. In order to complete the planning process, it was necessary for me to understand laws and regulations pertaining to education and technology.

Domain of Management
Competencies

Rationale for Inclusion
Plan, create, monitor and facilitate instructional design projects The plan represents my ability to plan and organize instructional design projects. I was required to either design or develop instruction while also serving as the team leader or project manager for the project.
Organize the instructional project or service unit to operate effectively and efficiently In order to make sure everything went according to plan, a thorough scope document or analysis was conducted, as well as a work breakdown structure or timeline.
Manage personnel and facilities Staffing plan describes roles of all persons affected by the project.
Plan and implement organizational change The project required my ability to plan and implement change within an organization.

Domain of Evaluation
Competencies

Rationale for Inclusion
Plan and conduct needs assessment A needs assessment was conducted for the purpose of determing performance measures.
Plan and conduct summative evaluation of instruction/training A summative evaluation was planned out in the project.
