520 Project Management Plan
MIT 520 is a course designed to understand the methods of managing instructional development projects. Areas of focus included: examining the principles of planning, scheduling, allocating resources, budgeting, proposal preparation, cost control, and personnel management for instructional projects. The course involved designing a project plan, deciding the best methods of implementing the project, and ways to control and monitor the project activities. For my project, I chose an instructional design project that I began working on during my Internship, that was not completed during my Internship. I decided to reconstruct the most effective and efficient way to manage the project to be completed on time and at-or-under budget, since I was only able to slightly begin the project originally. This project allowed me to refocus attention to the project and re-evaluate the problem and solutions, while also allowed me to increase my knowledge and skills as a project manager. The project was created using several different phases and tools based on the Project Management Institute’s (PMI) Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK). As mentioned in the Domain of Management, according to the PMBOK, effective project management consists of five basic process groups and nine knowledge areas. The five basic process groups include:
