MIT 530 Change Management Plan

MIT 530 is an Introduction to the evaluation techniques associated with educational evaluation media and materials, courses,
curricula, students or other elements in educational programs. Allison Rossett’s “Training Needs Assessment” text was the basis for which the course was designed.

The course project requirements were to conduct a change management plan consisting of two phases:
• Needs Assessment Plan
• Change Management Plan

The client we chose to work with was the UNCW Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) which is the University’s Staff Development Center. A problem of lack of use of CTE resources which include, staff development sessions (courses) as well as job aid resources, was presented to our Dr. Chen, our course professor.

This project was conducted in a group of four team members. The four group members worked as a team for conducting the needs assessment. Once the needs assessment was gathered, each individual team member was to construct our own change management plan according to the needs assessment results. My roles included serving as the team leader for the change management plan and serving as the writer and developer of the proposal and proposal presentation. As the team leader, I orchestrated the roles of each team member and served as the main contact with the client (CTE Director and the Associate Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs).

The Needs Assessment Plan involved (As a group):
• Meeting with the CTE director and Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs to gain insight into the problem
• Gathering and analyzing extant data of CTE use history
• Conducting a survey of UNCW faculty seeking demographic knowledge, knowledge of awareness of CTE use, frequency of
CTE use, and rationale behind use or lack of use

The Change Management Plan required involved (Individual):
• Analyzing the needs assessment for possible strategies for improving the situation
• Developing the strategies and the resources needed for the proposed strategies
• Determining constraints and methods of overcoming the constraints
• Developing a timeline which includes milestones and stepping stones
• Implementation strategies for the solutions

Plan and conduct needs assessment

Conducted a needs assessment for the Center for Teaching Excellence.

Analyze the characteristics of a setting (learning environment).

The needs assessment plan included an analysis of the environment to develop strategies for the change management plan.

Apply leadership techniques with individuals and groups (interpersonal skills, group dynamics, team building and diffusion of innovations)

The plan incorporates numerous strategies including interpersonal skills and team building.
Promote the diffusion and adoption of the instructional development process
Select strategies appropriate for promoting the diffusion and adoption of the instructional development process in a given setting and state a rationale for the strategies
The change management plan describes the possible constraints and methods of overcoming them for implementing the proposed change.
