ITSD Departmental Web Sites

Working for UNCW Information Technology Systems Division, my job title was Senior Web Developer. As a Senior Web Developer, my job was to assess the needs of the University Departments assigned to me, to improve their current Web sites
or develop a Web site from scratch. Each University Web site was to maintain a common look to foster a University theme,
but I was also allowed the opportunity to develop unique site attributes to allow each department to maintain its purpose and individual feel.

In this role, my duty was not directly related to designing or developing instruction, but rather designing and developing a venue to be used for instructional methodologies. The majority of the Web sites were to serve as promotional tools for departments and majors; educational tools for prospective students, faculty, or potential donors; as well as a convenient venue of information for current students, faculty, or visitors. With this in mind, it was important to consider educational objectives and utilize many of the components within the domain of Instructional Design.

My major tasks as Senior Web Developer included:

• Meetings and continuous communication with clients
• Conducting and preparing Needs Assessments for each department based on meetings with the client(s)
• Designing the Web site
• Developing the Web site
• Consulting with the UNCW webmaster
• Conducting field tests prior to approving the site to “go live”
• Assisting the webmaster with the site implementation
