The North Carolina Board of Nursing has adopted a Philosophy Statement which states:
"The Nursing Practice Act of North Carolina charges each licensed nurse to provide care under circumstances which are appropriate for his/her level of knowledge and skills. The responsibility for maintaining sufficient knowledge and skills to respond competently to varying circumstances remains with each licensed nurse. Individual accountability is central to implementation of current nursing practice."
