Instructional technology is the marriage of the theory of instructional design with media to create the learning environment adapting to the specific needs of the audience to build the skills and knowledge to positively impact performance.

Instructional design forms the skeleton of learning for all media. The learning pattern follows a series of moments that build on each other: Motivation: The learner must be motivated to be receptive to the information. Information: Necessary but not too much information needs to be delivered. Processing: Learners need time to process the information. AHA: Only by processing, can conclusions be drawn. Actions: The results of processing and conclusions. |
Klas Mellander wrote the book, "The Power of Learning" describing the discovery learning process. He states that assumptions should not be made about what people know based on their title or what they are capable of learning based on their title. People learn best when the conditions are set for them to discover the knowledge rather than be told the concepts. |
