MIT 515 Web Teaching: Design and Development
(Domains/Competencies/Job Qualifications/Artifacts/Rationale)

Context & Conditions

The course focuses on theory and practice of design and development of web-based instruction. The students are required to use web-developed tools and instructional design principles to design and develop web-based instruction. Based on the course requirement, the project “development capabilities of instructional technology program in NJNU, China,” was completed under the direction of Dr. Jennifer Summerville. The workshop project was designed for current graduate students in Educational Technology program of NJNU who are lost in their program study. It was developed using such web-developed tool as the Blackboard Vista.

Scope:

The mini project is to demonstrate understanding and application of principles of design and development of web-based instruction. The project placed importance on design and development, including resource organization, structure development, activity design, and pre-course survey production. Peer evaluation was conducted after the completion of design and development in terms of evaluation rubric that I created.

Role:

I designed and developed the project on my own. I worked primarily as a developer to present clear learning objectives and sequence activities and events logically to ensure the learners easy to navigate and engage throughout the course.

Reflection:

I was excited to go into the Blackboard Vista as a designer and developer. I was surprised with the power of the learning management system in designing, developing, managing, and delivering online instruction. Through the course project I learned about how to use course tools, instructor tools, and designer tools in LMS. I enjoyed it very much. Before, I accessed to the system as a learner. For this project, I think that I need to do more research and include some examples of multi-track program of instructional technology field in America.
