Instructional strategies
are the conditions for selecting and sequencing of the instructional
events and strategies
(Seels & Richey, 1994). These strategies are based on the results
of the front-end analysis, which includes the learner
characteristics, environmental analysis (Organization Environment, Work
Environment, Work, Workers), and learning
objectives. Instructional strategies, as the name indicates, are the
methodologies for meeting the objectives determined
in the front-end analysis.
According to Gagne, the following
sequence of learning should be considered when determining instructional
strategies
(Gagne 1985):
1. Gain attention
2. Describe the goal
3. Stimulate recall of prior knowledge
4. Present the material to be learned
5. Provide guidance for learning
6. Elicit performance
7. Provide informative feedback
8. Assess performance
9. Enhance retention and transfer
