Learner characteristics are the unique attributes that each learner brings to the instructional experience that can impact the
effectiveness of the learning process. Analyzing the learners’ characteristics increases the ability to engage each member of
the audience. Therefore a thorough analysis is key in tailoring the design of the instruction. The learner characteristics are used
by the designer to determine strategies that can maximize learning for each individual. Generally, demographics and learning
styles are the key components analyzed that can aid in appropriate design. Once this information is gathered, the designer can
attempt to meet the needs of each individual learner in an inclusive delivery for the entire group.
