Domain
of Utilization
Utilization is concerned
generally with facilitating the use of resources for learning (Molenda,
1993). According to AECT,
“The Domain of Utilization covers the use of human and material
resources to gain acceptance for, implement, and
institutionalize a program of instruction as designed and developed
(AECT, 2001).” An Instructional Designer must be
able to work beyond the design and development domains to assure that
their product is utilized. In many situations,
instructional design and development is seen as unnecessary change to
employees or learners, and the instructional
designer need to be able to persuade the effectiveness of the training
method.
In order to meet the components suggested by the AECT definition, The
Domain of Utilization involves media utilization,
diffusion of innovation, and installation and institutionalizing the
program of instruction within the organization. A thorough
environmental analysis during the front-end of the project will allow
the Instructional Designer to prejudge possible
resistance to the instruction, and also allow the designer to cater
their design and development methodologies to meet
the current procedures of the organization as needed.
