MIT 512 Webquest

One of the project requirements for MIT 512 was to create a Webquest for enhancing the learning outcome of a particular subject within the K-12 environment. I chose to develop a Webquest catered to high school freshman for understanding human blood pressure titled, “How Good of a Car Are You?” This course allowed students to gain knowledge of blood pressure and finally required them to relate blood pressure systems to those of an automobile. The course incorporated constructivist learning tactics, emphasized technology use for learning and instruction, and also incorporated group work and learner creativity.

I have included the Webquest and its components as they relate to the domain competencies of instructional technology.

Domain of Instructional Design
Competencies

Rationale for Inclusion
Sequence learner outcome. Each activity is sequenced according to the appropriate objective, for each activity is a pre-requisite for the preceding one.
Determine instructional resources (media/computer technology) appropriate to instructional activities.

The Lesson plan describes the necessary tools for the instructor to properly facilitate the lesson and Webquest.

Domain of Instructional Development
Competencies
Artifacts
Rationale for Inclusion
Demonstrate knowledge of computer utilization practices and the ability to apply them in instructional settings including: computer literacy, software selection and evaluation, instructional management, hypermedia development and distance learning The Webquest demonstrates my ability to produce multi-media instructional materials through the use of computer, web, and hypermedia development.
Design and produce computer-based instruction, including drill-and-practice and tutorial programs The Lesson plan demonstrates the design of the Webquest activities, and the Webquest serves as the final development of the lessons via the web.
Appropriate assignments and tasks were utilized, and tutorial items were available within the Webquest.
Design and produce interactive multimedia systems The Webquest was designed for the purpose of involving the users interactively either for learning or utilization.
Develop curriculum and apply instructional technology to the curriculum at the systems level, the macro level and the micro level The Webquest demonstrates my ability to develop curriculum using multiple forms of media.
Demonstrate knowledge and ability to design and produce self-instructional modules, training manuals, instructor's guides and job aids The Webquest is a self-instructional module, that also includes a guide for the instructor to serve as a facilitator.

Domain of Utilization
Competencies
Artifacts
Rationale for Inclusion
Apply principles of selection and use of materials and techniques relevant to a multicultural society (e.g., non-print, print, mass media, hardware, software and other audiovisual strategies) The Webquest demonstrates my ability to select and use materials necessary to meet the learning outcomes of learning audiences.
Apply leadership techniques with individuals and groups (interpersonal skills, group dynamics, team building and diffusion of innovations)

The Webquest incorporates group dynamics and team building.
