WebCT Courses
Context
These courses were developed as part of the MIT Internship I completed during the spring and summer of 2006. I worked with Dr. Hengameh Kermani in the UNCW Watson School of Education- Education of Young Children department. She had three WebCT courses in varying levels of development that required some design and development. She provided all course information and documents and asked me to complete the development of the courses within the WebCT system.
Conditions
When I began this work I had no prior experience as a WebCT designer. I had used the program as a student in MIT courses but had not used any design features. I spent some time learning the management system before developing the courses. I used Dr. Kermani’s content to develop the courses and modified the graphic elements and layout of the course as needed.
Scope
Two of the courses were built during the course of the spring semester and were being used by students at the same time. Therefore, the schedule for inserting content was based on the course schedule. These courses will be updated and used in the spring of 2007 as well. The third course was developed during the summer of 2006 and is currently in use as a fall 2006 course.
Role
My role in this project was course developer. I met with Dr. Kermani to discuss the content, layout, and other aspects of the course she wanted. Based on her content and desired layout, I developed the courses within WebCT and then met with her to discuss revisions. Revisions were made to the courses based on our discussions and the final products were utilized in practice.
Reflection
I enjoyed working on this project because it gave me
the chance to experience working one-on-one with a client to develop their visions
for content and layout. I feel that I built a lasting interpersonal and professional
relationship with Dr. Kermani as well as gaining knowledge about WebCT as a
course management system. My experience in WebCT has contributed to my ability
to work within other course management systems such as Blackboard with little
to no formal training.
