MIT 595: Computer Programming
Context
The computer programming applications showcased in this final portfolio represent the activities and projects completed during the fall 2005 course MIT 595: Special Topics in Instructional Technology (Computer Programming) under the direction of Dr. Jack Tompkins from the Computer Science department at UNCW. During this course, I learned and applied programming language and concepts within Macromedia Flash, Squeak, MS Excel and other programming environments.
Conditions
At the beginning of this course, I had no prior experience or knowledge related to programming. My experience with the mathematical and logic knowledge base was also limited. I had some basic experience manipulating Flash animation sequences and had worked on multiple design and development projects in which Flash animation sequences would have contributed to the final product.
Scope
The artifacts on the site demonstrate different examples of design and development projects using multiple programs. They demonstrate my ability to learn and apply programming languages. Each artifact has applications for use in larger projects designed for instructional purposes or instructional management systems.
Role
All of the featured artifacts were completed on an individual basis with support from the instructor. In addition, they were reviewed by classmates and revised before finalizing the applications.
Reflection
My only wish for this course would
be that I would have had more time to practice the applications in instructional
settings. Although the projects were helpful in learning the basics of Action
Script, they very rarely applied specifically to the instructional applications.
I would like to follow-up with additional instruction in these application areas.
Also, I would like the opportunity to work in the Macromedia Flash environment
more and explore its multiple benefits in designing applications for instructional
programs
