Lesson 3 – Food Guide Pyramid

Preparation: Prior to Lesson 3, students will record what they eat on a Nutrition Tracker Handout ® for five days. (Appendix B)

* Students should be instructed only to record the foods and to hold off on classifying the foods into food groups.

Goal: Students compare and contrast food options, using the Food Guide Pyramid.

Time Frame: Three 60-minute class periods

Objectives:
Students will demonstrate the ability to make healthy food choices in accordance with the USDA guidelines as presented in the Food Guide Pyramid by creating: 
• A Food Pyramid Booklet
• One day menu of 3 meals and 2 snacks which meets the requirements of the Food Guide Pyramid
• Recipe for a healthy snack which meets the requirements of the Food Guide Pyramid (make hard copies available for each student in your classroom.)
