Competencies ~ Domain of Utilization
Models and theories in the Utilization domain tend to focus on the user’s perspective, providing a general rationale for the selection of appropriate learning activities for learners at different experiential levels. The function of the Utilization domain is to manage the interface between learner and instructional materials or systems (Seels and Richey, 1994).

MIT Artifacts |
Artifact Justification |
Apply principles of selection and use of materials and techniques relevant to a multicultural society (e.g., non-print, print, mass media, hardware, software and other strategies). |
Manage instructional design resources and apply instructional design and adult learning principles, plus apply design principles and usability heuristics on multimedia and online communication.
Prepare end-users for implementation of courseware materials.

- Minding The Gap At GIRL’S Inc.
MIT 542: Internship - Self Instructional Module for High School Math and Science Teachers on The SAS Website
|
MIT 510 addressed a multicultural society. The process for development and the products for learning applied the principles of selection for the materials and techniques relevant to the environment.
MIT 542 applied the principles of selecting materials and techniques by using a community of learners and the learners’ characteristics and by considering the best practices for addressing the learners’ needs.
|
Apply leadership techniques with individuals and groups (interpersonal skills, group dynamics, team building and diffusion of innovations). |
Proven ability to work in a team environment.
Work with team members to develop superior, innovative learning programs and to improve the process that results in learning. |
MIT 500: Instructional Systems Design: Theory and Research - Studying Relaxed Breathing Techniques to Reduce Anger
MIT 510: Design and Development of IT
MIT 522: Organization & Management of IT Programs - Minding The Gap At GIRL’S Inc.
MIT 530: Evaluation and Change in Instructional Development - Examining Diversity Within The Watson School Of Education Curriculum
MIT 531: Assessment of Learning Outcomes
|
For each of the adjacent projects (MIT 500, MIT 510, MIT 522, MIT 530, and MIT 531), teams of two, three, or four individuals worked collaboratively to design and develop materials. Multiple team building strategies to complete the projects were implemented.
|
Promote the diffusion and adoption of the instructional development process.
|
Develop training for diverse audiences.

MIT 530: Evaluation and Change in Instructional Development - Examining Diversity Within The Watson School Of Education Curriculum
|
MIT 510 provided evidence of selecting a change model through planned strategies for the purpose of gaining adoption of the innovation, differentiation in teaching.
MIT 522 provided evidence of selecting a change model and applying the change throughout the process of planning and implementing Open Source software.
MIT 530 used the strategies of evaluation for adoption of diffusion of innovation bringing the project focus to change theory and principles as they relate to adoption and the use of instructional products.
|
Demonstrate a knowledge of the laws and regulations which govern the selection and utilization of media/emerging technology, including copyright, censorship, State Board Regulations, Local Board Policies, etc. |
Translate client requirements into an instructional design plan.
Coordinate and communicate information to project manager to guarantee instructional design needs, project plan, and to identify production dependencies, risks. |
MIT 510: Design and Development of IT
- Minding The Gap At GIRL’S Inc.
|
MIT 510 demonstrated through a carefully analyzed needs assessment, knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations which must be included within the project.
MIT 522 demonstrated compliance with all local and federal rules. Furthermore, MIT 522 was designed to comply with local and national requirements for Mission and Goal statements. |
