Context and Conditions
This project was developed for MIT 520: Managing Instructional Development in the fall of 2004 under the direction of Dr. Arnold Murdock. The instructional development project was needed at Trask Middle School due to a problem with teachers not using proper tools and teaching students copyright laws and research skills when doing research in the media center and the computer lab. I completed the project plan individually as I held the position of computer resource teacher at Trask Middle School. The purpose of the project plan is to ensure that tasks are accomplished within the schedule beginning in April 2005. Completion of the final work session will take place in December 2005.
Scope
The project includes a scope management plan with a problem statement and procedures for information gathering. I provided a plan for conducting a performance analysis and the 4 levels of performance. The performance analysis is used to describe what is and what should be within each level (Organization, work, work environment, work). The analysis would also compare what IS and SHOULD be to identify gaps in performance. The resource analysis includes product specifications and costs. There are descriptions of the project team and responsibilities for each member of the team included in the plan as well thorough communication plan. The project plan identifies constraints and alternative solutions for the project. The work breakdown structure was based on Dick and Carey’s Instructional Design Model (2001). MS Project software is used to organize each step of the projects.
Role
I developed the plan as a project manager using instructional design principles. I used Microsoft Project to organize the WBS and resources into a timeline. As the computer resource teacher at the middle school, I used my knowledge of the organizational structure and conditions to create the development teams and to conduct a performance analysis of the faculty at the school.
Reflection
This was a project that improved my project management skills. I had to learn how to develop a scope management plan that was based on a thorough performance analysis of a real-world organization. I learned to analyze and prioritize risks in the situation and how to provide alternatives and plans for adjusting to risks and constraints.
