MIT 502: Human Performance Improvement Project

Systematic Performance Improvement Plan

Context and Conditions

This project was developed for MIT 502: Systematic Approach to Performance Improvement in the summer of 2004 under the direction of Dr. Arnold Murdock. The performance improvement project was needed at Trask Middle School due to a problem with teachers correctly completing their electronic grading input and submitting them by the required deadlines. I completed the project plan individually as I held the position of computer resource teacher at Trask Middle School . The purpose of the project plan is to conduct a performance analysis and provide a systematic plan for addressing the gaps presented by the analysis.

Scope

The project includes a performance analysis conducted of the organization. The analysis includes issues dealing with what IS and what SHOULD be within four performance categories (Organization and Environment, Work Environment, Work, and Worker). The performance analysis identifies the gaps and causes for each. The implementation plan of the project describes the schedule, projected gains and costs and resources needs of each of the four performance areas.

Role

I conducted the performance analysis and created the plan individually. As the computer resource teacher at the middle school, I used my knowledge of the organizational structure and condition to create the conduct a performance analysis of the faculty at the school.

Reflection

I created the project plan on the basis of a performance analysis and a gap analysis. I was able to prioritize gaps by classifying them into their status (past, present, or future: negative or positive). I learned how to analyze performance issues of four performance categories: organization and environment, work environment, work, and worker. The performance plan also required a cost estimate of the implementation.
