MIT 511 - Multimedia Design and Development
Context and Conditions: The Class Website project was designed and developed to meet the requirement of MIT 511, Multimedia Design and Development. The project was completed under the guidance of Dr. Arnold Murdock during the fall semester of 2006. The purpose of the Class Website was to demonstrate proficiency using Macromedia Dreamweaver, Flash, and Fireworks. MIT 510 also required the usage of multimedia theoretical principals such as Richard E. Mayer’s Multimedia Learning (2001) and Linda Lohr’s Creating Graphics for Learning and Performance (2003). The project was completed in one semester.
Scope: The MIT 511 project consisted of three phases: plan, design, and development. In the planning phase, I determined the content of the site. In the design phase, I created a storyboard of my website and integrated multimedia theoretical principals. During the development phase, I produced the website. Upon completion of our websites, we conducted peer evaluations of other classmate’s websites. I currently use the website with my students.
Role: My roles within this project included instructional designer and developer. I planned, designed, and developed the class website. I ensured the project would be completed within the given time frame and made any necessary revisions based upon the peer evaluation.
Reflection: MIT 511 introduced me to the world of web design. The project was very practical because the Internet is often used as an instructional tool. Also, learning the Macromedia suite development tools is a demanded skill by the job market today. Given a chance to revise the project, I would add more interactive lessons to my module.
