MIT 513 - Computer Based Instruction
Context and Conditions: The computer based instructional (CBI) module, Conjugating Verbs in the Present Tense, was designed and developed to fulfill the requirement of MIT 513, Computer Based Instruction. The project was completed under the guidance of Dr. Arnold Murdock in the spring of 2006. The purpose of the computer based instructional (CBI) module creation was to demonstrate my ability to develop interactive training applications using CBI authoring systems. Conjugating Verbs in the Present Tense was completed individually and within one semester. The project was designed for homebound students who did not have the ability to learn in a traditional classroom.
Scope: The CBI module was designed to teach basic present tense conjugation rules in Spanish. The user could interact with the module, by taking short quizzes after each segment. Conjugating Verbs in the Present Tensewas developed using Sum Total System’s ToolBook Instructor application. Graphics were designed using Macromedia Fireworks. The preceding design document included the purpose of the CBI, client requirements, constraints, evaluation items, instructional strategy, and media requirements.
Role: My roles within the CBI module included instructional designer and developer. As the instructional designer, I planned and evaluated each component contained within the product. As the instructional developer, I applied the technical skills learned within the class to produce a functioning product.
Reflection: I was very excited to integrate my CBI module into my classroom instruction. I feel I created a product that was very useful and necessary for homebound students and students who needed additional practice in Spanish. I am also glad to have had such a great opportunity to learn and practice the features of ToolBook, which is widely used in business and industry for the design and development of computer-based instruction.
