Instructional Technology Portfolio for Susan Elizabeth Allred

520 Referral Writing Project Annotation

Context

This project was developed as a partial requirement for MIT 520: Managing Instructional Development in the fall semester of 2004 under the direction of Dr. Arnold Murdock. The project focused on working with the discipline team at Ashley High School to develop a training manual for referral writing. The purpose of this project was to develop an effective design project plan, implement that plan, and control and monitor project activities. The theoretical foundation for this project planned was described by Jeffrey K. Pinto (1998). This project plan consists of the scope management, risk management, project work, and network diagram/schedule. The scope management contains the conceptual development/background of the problem and the scope statement. The risk management defines the project risks and responses. The project work defines the project deliverables and working teams. The network diagram/schedule defines the working hours and timeline of the project.

Conditions

I worked individually on this project. The schedule was to complete the project in time for it to be submitted to the discipline committee for review before the end of the school year. There was no budget to complete the report. The content and analysis were completed during the development of the report.

Scope

The project was submitted to the Ashley High School discipline committee for review. Currently, there is no data indicating whether or not the school acted on the proposal.

Role

I assumed the role of project manager for this project. I completed the analysis and developed scope and risk management plans. I also developed the project work and schedule.

Reflection

This project taught me to view instructional design from a managerial perspective. The previous projects that I had completed were from a developer’s point of view, which was familiar to me as a teacher. I am pleased with the outcome of this project with the exception of the work breakdown structure. If I had the opportunity to complete this project again, I would spend more time developing the work breakdown structure.
