Instructional Technology Portfolio for Susan Elizabeth Allred

MIT 542 Science and Math Education Center Internship Annotation

Context

This project was developed for the Science and Math Education Center (SMEC) at UNCW as a MIT 542: Internship project under the direction of Karen Shafer, SMEC director and supervision of Dr. Mahnaz Moallem. The first task was to conduct a needs assessment of math teachers to determine the needs for instruction. The needs assessment was conducted by survey and revealed that instruction on how to incorporate technology was of interest. The second task was to determine which software could be used to for the development and delivery of the instruction. An interview was conducted with the Science and Math Education Center at East Carolina University where a similar module had been developed. It was determined that TI Interactive software was a highly successful tool. The final task prior to development was to determine the instructional strategy. The SMEC director was interested in providing teachers with multiple perspectives for presenting instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. Therefore, the module was developed with two lessons. The first goal was to provide teachers with tools to present materials using multiple perspectives in order suit the needs of diverse learners The second goal was to provide strategies for teachers to use TI Interactive software as a development tool.

Conditions

I completed the research and development of this module individually. Although there was no budget or schedule for development, I was paid for my work. Ms. Shafer wishes to add another module to this instruction on using TI Interactive as an instructional tool. I have been contracted to complete this task this summer.

Scope

The project has not gone to completion yet. There will be an additional module developed before the instruction is implemented. The module that has been developed has gone through the formative evaluation process.

Role

I assumed the role of Instructional Designer for this project. I completed the needs analysis, designed, developed, and evaluated the instruction.

Reflection

The instructional content of this module is strong. However, I believe more relevant resources could have been provided. I also think the navigation of the module could be improved upon. I used Microsoft Frontpage to develop websites at the time. Since then I have learned to develop template based websites in Macromedia Dreamweaver. When the second module is developed, I will revamp the first module into templates as well.
