MIT 542-Internship
Context and Conditions: I completed my internship in the summer of 2007 under the supervision of Mrs. Karen Greene at the intern site and the guidance of Dr. Sue-Jen Chen. The primary task involved in my internship was to design and develop self-instructional modules to be used by the middle school assistant principals of New Hanover County Schools. The project was completed in one month.
Scope: To implement Plato software into the New Hanover County School, I designed and developed a self-instructional module teaching important features of Plato software. The project was completed systematically, using the Dick, Carey, & Carey (2005) model.
Role: As the Instructional Designer, I had the responsibility to conduct a front-end analysis to determine the need, design and develop the instructional materials, and solicit feedback from users. I worked with a representative of Plato software to ensure the accuracy of the materials. I also ensured the project was being completed in a timely manner.
Reflection: My internship was a very valuable experience. I felt I was able to apply the skills and knowledge I learned through the MIT program to my work. I was able to see first hand how important the ISD process is when designing instruction. My internship also cemented my desire to remain in the field of education. It was a truly enjoyable and practical experience.
