Context and Conditions

This project was a requirement for MIT 530: Managing Instructional Development completed in the Fall of 2007 under the direction of Dr. Arnold Murdock.  I worked with R & S Reality to plan a new international division.  The company wanted the plan to be implemented by December 2007.  In order to accomplish this, I had to move up the deadline of the project plan by two months.  I worked collaboratively with the stakeholders in order to gain an objective perspective.

Scope

This project was completed in collaboration with the R & S Reality, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.  A project proposal was created based on a front-end-analysis.  This was a proposal for a project plan and budget to implement a new international sales division for the European market. From this proposal, the timeline was created along with a proposed budget.  The project proposal was completed in October 2007 and implementation began immediately.  The company has begun marketing to the European market and started their concierge services.

Role

This was an individual project where I served as project manager.  The scope was developed using the front-end analysis.  Using the resources available, a timeline was created for   I compiled a timeline and budget for this project.  Although I did not follow the project to completion, the report allowed for the stakeholder to follow the plan.

Reflection

This was my first experience working in the private sector.  I found the pressure to be much greater.  The company wanted to increase their profits by marketing to overseas.  I was very nervous about working with the real estate company since this was completely out of my comfort zone.  If I could make any changes, I would have had more contact with the stakeholders to gain more information.  Therefore, I believe that I could have cut the budget even more.  Another factor was distance.  The company and personnel were in Florida and I was in North Carolina.  I believe that if I could have had an initial sit down session with the stakeholders, I would have had more detailed information that would have made the project plan better.
