MIT 530
Context and Conditions
This project was a requirement for MIT 530: Evaluation and Change in Instructional Development completed in the Spring of 2008 under the direction of Dr. Sue Jen Chen. A formative evaluation of the Blackboard 24/7 Support Course was completed by Tom Dorgan, Bethanne Winzeler, Lacey Somach, and I for the Office of E-Learning at UNCW. We worked collaboratively with the Office of E-Learning to compile a survey that would gather faculty’s attitude about the Blackboard Help Course and use of specific tools regarding this course.
Scope
This project consisted of conducting an analysis for a business or organization. This consisted of conducting a needs assessment, analyze the data using SPSS, develop a proposal based on the data, and develop a change management plan for the organization.
The Office of E-learning developed a “Help Course” for faculty and wanted to determine future changes to the course. The team submitted the results of the needs assessment and proposal to the Office of E-Learning
Role
I served as an instructional designer for this project. I contributed to the needs assessment by reviewing the extant data, conducting interviews, and developing a survey for the faculty. Once the data was collected, I collaborated with my team members to analyze the data. From the data we were able to identify the needs of the faculty. Once these needs were identified, I assisted with creating a proposal.
In addition, as an instructional designer, I created a change management plan that would ensure the adoption of the recommendations.
Reflection
This was the second attempt of designing a survey and it was not any easier than the first time. I have found creating surveys very difficult but I do enjoy the challenge. The highlight of this course was being able to get 30% of the surveys back from the faculty.
